I finished a long day at the clinic. It had been a day of difficult, complex cases. My body was tired, my mind heavy.
As I leave the clinic all exhausted, I could hear my daughter Naama laughing in the living room. In our serious home, she's always the one who laughs the most β really rolling with it. It always does me good to be around her. Even when she's in pain, she doesn't cry or complain. She just laughs.
But that evening I was too tired.
"Naama," I said, "maybe that's enough?"
She turned the volume down, kept looking at her phone β and laughed quietly.
"What are you watching that's so funny?" I asked.
"Mom, you have to watch with me. It's bloopers. It's hilarious."
"I don't like bloopers," I said. "They annoy me."
She looked at me and said: "Mom, come on β this will make you laugh, and then you'll feel so much better."
"Okay," I told her. "Just a few minutes together."
It took me half a minute.
The two of us started laughing until we cried. Everyone joined in β and we laughed together for a full hour.
It was so much fun, and so freeing. I allowed myself to let go of the worries, the routine, the thoughts β and entered a world of laughter.
The weight lifted effortlessly. The worries dissolved. My energy came back. The atmosphere in the home was light and easy. I had an hour of deep healing β and the funniest part was that it required no effort at all.
Naama didn't know she was healing me. She simply let me into her moment.
The laughter waiting for me in the living room after a hard day taught me something I won't forget β about healing, about lightness, and about what our children can teach us when we let them.
Wishing you life full of with joy and laughter,
